Isager books from the vault! Published in 2006, Marianne Isager's Knitting Out of Africa was inspired by beautiful historic African carpets, baskets, and other textiles. Beginning in the 1990's, Isager travelled around Africa and used the colors and motifs she saw there in her own design work - the mud-dried fabrics of Mali, the block patterns of Ghana, motifs from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zaire, and Zimbabwe. Knitting Out of Africa includes patterns for 16 intricate knitted cardigans, pullovers, and sweater vests. Intended for seasoned knitters, these projects use domino, double knitting, entrelac, intarsia, and stranded two-color techniques worked in fingering-weight yarns.
